The Association

The ARK+ Residents' Association was formed in late 2007 to represent the views of all residents living within Area K+ enabling them to exercise their rights to oversee the maintenance of their amenities and environment.

As of May 2008, 52 out of 300 properties within Area K+ are members of the Association. If you haven't yet joined, please do so now. It's free and, if you don't want to get involved, you don't have to do a thing.

Our constitution

Our constitution, accepted at the February 2008 meeting, contains details of the Association's aims, membership, meetings and duties of the committee. A copy can be downloaded below.

The committee

Pat Thew Pat Thew
Chairperson

Pat has lived in Area K+ since August 2004. She fell in love with her house the first moment she saw it. She previously lived in Bitterne where there are too many houses and not enough green open spaces. While Pat was purchasing her home her Solicitor had mentioned that she would have to pay a service charge for maintenance of the area on top of her Council charges, but as this was around £85 a year she was not bothered. However each new bill was larger than the last, and when last year’s bill arrived she decided it was time to find out what she was paying for.

Whiteley Parish Council arranged a meeting for all those who were also not happy with the service charges to meet with one another, and shortly after this a few people decided to form the ARK+ Residents Association. Pat was nominated as chairman as she had recently retired from the Civil Service where she had been a Project Manager at the Office of National Statistics working involved with collecting forms and processing of the 2001 Census.

Recently Pat was co-opted onto the Whiteley Parish Council so she is now able to pass onto ARK+ members details of any issues discussed by the Parish Council that concern us.

Her target for this year is to increase the membership of ARK+ to the 66% we need to become truly effective, and to work with Countrywide to stop the service charges rising.
